3/1   Sewing Class - Introduction to "Feet" at the Fleming Co. Extension Office.
Expand your sewing skills by learning how to use the many accessory feet that comes with your sewing machine during “Introduction to Feet." This workshop will give you a new taste of sewing fun and allow you to make even more of your own handmade items. Supplies: Bring sewing machine, attachments, machine manual, basic sewing kit, scrap fabric and threads. The Extension Office has some sewing machines on hand for your use, let us know if you want to use one at your class when you register. 3/2   Farmer’s Market Meeting at Blue Licks
If you are a local farmer with locally grown and produced items, then this is your opportunity to become part of this group. The Blue Licks Farmer’s Market group will be meeting at Blue Licks with Robertson County Agriculture Extension Agent, Ms. Shannon Ferrell. Farmers from the following counties are encouraged to attend this meeting: Robertson, Nicholas, & Fleming. Call Jeanine Gallagher at 606-724-5906 for more information about this new venture.
 
3/2 - 16   Dining with Diabetes is a three-part nutrition series that will provide diabetics and/or their families with important information on how to prepare food when they have diabetes. Sessions will cover information on desserts, main dishes, and side dishes. Participants will taste food and receive recipes at each session. This program will be held at the Flemingsburg Housing office at Circle Drive beginning on Tuesday, March 2, 2010. These sessions will be held weekly at 11:30am. 3/2   Learn the Japanese art of Tawashi at the Fleming County Extension Office.
Learn a quick Japanese crochet pattern to make a tawashi. This is Japanese for scrubber. This project will be shared at the monthly yarn club session. Bring a crochet hook and yarn to the class. For more info contact the Extension office at 845-4641. (6 PM)

3/5   Seafood Buffet at Hidden Waters Restaurant
Join us the first Friday of every month when we serve an all you can eat seafood buffet, including unlimited soup and salad bar for $27.99 + tax + beverage. Our Seafood Buffet includes all-you-can-eat crab legs, fried fish, and an ever changing variety of other seafood entrées. We even serve items for the land lovers in your family, like pasta, roast beef & gravy, and fried chicken. Of course, this also includes our fabulous dessert bar. Buffet is served from 4pm-close. 3/9   Learn the Japanese art of Kimekomi at the Fleming County Extension Office.
Kimekomi means “tuck" in Japanese. Shelby Fannin, Fleming County Homemaker, has been making these kimekomi balls for holiday decorations and now Easter egg decorations. She will help you make a Christmas ornament or Easter egg during this workshop. All supplies will be furnished. Class fee is $3.00, class size is limited. 3/10   Fleming County Chamber of Commerce Lunch 'n' Learn: "Trimming Healthcare Costs One Pound at a Time" with Brad Ward from Total Care Pharmacy.

Ladies - Bring in your "used" prom, pageant, Easter, or Party dresses and either model or display for sale. Registration fee is a donation of $1 per dress, with all proceeds going to ACS Relay for Life.

An afternoon of great Country Music featuring Hayley Roberson, Megan Warner, and Leroy Day with special guest appearances by Laura Willoughby and Larry Sanders. 3/15   Sewing Machine Basics Class
Have an old machine or new machine that you do not know how to operate? Come let the Master clothing volunteers help you learn all about your machine. The Fleming County Cooperative Extension Service is offering this sewing class. The workshop will be held on March 15, 2010, at 10 AM at the Fleming County Extension office.

You will need an instruction manual for the machine you will be using. If you don’t have a manual, contact the office and give the make and model of your machine. The volunteers will try to locate one before the class. No registration fee, but we ask that you please pre-register for this class by March 5.

Supplies Needed: Bring a sewing machine, manual, basic sewing kit, scrap fabric and threads.

March 16th, 6 PM at the Fleming Co. Library

Parents/Caregivers and children ages 3-5 read the story, make green eggs and ham. First 10 to register take home a free book!

3/16   Learn the Japanese art of Sashiko at the Fleming County Extension Office.
Learn the art of Sashiko stitching during this workshop. Sashiko is a traditional Japanese technique once used to repair and decorate the clothing of fishermen. It then became an art form. In this class you will create a small stitched item. All supplies will be furnished. Class fee will be $4.00, class size is limited. Please contact the office at 845-4641 to register. (6 PM)

3/19   Don’t know what to feed your family when money is tight? Attend a lunch and learn session at the Flemingsburg Housing Authority office on Friday, March 19th at noon. Barbara Campbell, Fleming County Cooperative Extension Service SNAP Program Assistant will present a program on food spending plans. Recipes, food preparation techniques and more will be shared. This program is free and open to the public.

3/20   Franklin Sousley, American Hero —Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 1 pm, Community Room of the Fleming County Public Library

Kentucky author, Ronald Elliot, will share the unique story of our home-town boy’s childhood and family. Elliot is currently working on a new book about Sousley. This free program is sponsored by the Kentucky Humanities Council, Inc., Toyota Motor Manufacturing, North America and Fleming Co. Public Library and is open to the public. There is a Homemaker Council meeting scheduled for March 23rd at 6 p.m. at the Extension office. This will be our Salad Supper, so fix your favorite salad and bring it to share with everyone.

3/25   Farmer's Family Night at Maysville Community & Technical College

Programs for farmers, spouses, and kids of all ages! Timely topics such as: Forage, Cattle Management, Tracking Farm Operations, Soils, Beekeeping, Tree and Berry Production, Food and Nutrition, Home Decorating, and much more! Babysitting available for infants - 4 years; fun classes for kids ages 5-13.

We’ve centered this entire buffet around our most requested entrées: Catfish! Enjoy all you can eat fried catfish, lemon pepper broiled catfish, spicy Cajun catfish, catfish nuggets, and catfish fiddlers…but that’s not all! We’ll also have Licking River frog legs, river bank fried potatoes with onion, frog pond tarter sauce, hot slaw, fried cornbread, corn on the cob, green bean casserole, and of course our signature salad bar and desserts. 3/29   Jam Session at Blue Licks
Join area musicians on the last Monday of each month from 6pm-8pm for a relaxed evening of fun, friends, and music. You never know who will show up! This is an informal and unstructured event. This cooking lesson will be on March 29th at 10 a.m. Learn how to make a meal quickly with items you find in your cabinet. The lesson will be held at the Fleming Co. Extension Office and the Instructor is Martha Perkins, Rowan County Family & Consumer Sciences Extension Agent.

The Fleming County 4-H Shooting Sports registration for 2010 will be held Tuesday, March 30th at 6:00 PM at the Fleming County Extension Office. Fees will be $75.00 per child.
