1/1    Happy New Year! The Chamber office closed   1/1    Lucky Year Buffet – January 1 at Hidden Waters Restaurant, Blue Licks Battlefield State Park. Welcome in the New Year with traditional foods that bring good luck and prosperity throughout the year, such as Corn Beef Brisket, Carved Country Ham, Cooked Cabbage, Fried Cabbage, Sauerkraut, Black Eyed Peas, Pinto Beans, Cornbread, Fried Chicken, Green Beans, Mashed Potatoes, Fried Catfish, Peas, and more. The restaurant will be serving up all of The King’s favorite dishes from Fried Peanut Butter & Banana Sandwiches & Memphis Pork BBQ to Banana Pudding & Sweet Potato Pie. This all-you-can-eat buffet allows you to sample a variety of chili’s, such as Turkey Chili, Firehouse Chili, Tri-County Chili, and more. Smother your favorite foods like pasta, burgers, burritos, hot dogs, and basically anything else you can create and cover with chili. (4 - 8 PM)   1/19    Martin Luther King, Jr. Day - No School Chamber Office Closed   1/19 - 9    WINTER SESSION OF ART CLASSES BEGIN JANUARY 19TH AT BANANA TREE STUDIOS Monday January 19th begins the next 8-week session of evening art classes at Banana Tree Studios in Flemingsburg. Classes are limited to 6-8 students, beginners to advanced. Classes are in the evenings and begin at 6:00 pm for drawing and ceramics and 6:30 for watercolor. All classes are $110 for 2 ˝ hrs. per week for eight weeks. Gift certificates are available. Instructors will be Susan Doyle for Drawing, Kim McKisson for Watercolor, and Ken Macht for Ceramics. An advanced course designed just for farm women in Bracken, Fleming, Lewis, Mason, and Robertson Counties. It will cover Soil Fertility, Forages, Financial Management, and Farm Transition/Estate Planning. Meals sponsored by Farm Credit Services. Registration fee is $30 for printed materials. (7 PM)   1/22    A special meeting has been set for the Fleming County Livestock Exhibitors and their parents during the 4-H Livestock Classes, on Thursday, January 22, 2009, at 7PM. For 2009, all 4-H members who plan to exhibit market animals must obtain 6 hours of livestock classroom instruction before tagging. This class will meet a 1 hour requirement. (7 PM)   1/31 - 1    WATERCOLOR/PASTEL WEEKEND WORKSHOP BY KATHY JOHNSON Banana Tree Studios SATURDAY, JANUARY 31 and SUNDAY FEBRUARY 1 On January 31st we will hold a weekend workshop teaching a technique used in watercolor and pastel. Kathy Johnson of Lexington/Carlisle will guide participants in a method using a watercolor under painting with pastel overlay. There are a variety of interactions one can use with this technique - its up to your creativity. Kathy has a BA in Art History from the University of Kentucky and studied under Fay Moore. The technique Kathy will show the class is the method she learned from Fay Moore. This class will offer beginners a chance to try their hand at painting and advanced students to experiment with the interaction of the two mediums as well as texture and depth. Everyone will go home with a painting and a new technique. There are limited spaces available for this workshop. Be sure to sign up early. The workshop is $65.
